Ravenheart Music: Interviews

DIVA SUICIDE - INTERVIEW

-XS-2.jpg
April 2010 saw the release of Diva Suicide's debut mini album 'Scars', featuring 7 dynamic songs, and showcasing their unique and inspiring sound. Loaded with addictive choruses that hook the listener faster than your local drug dealer, London based Diva Suicide are rapidly confirming themselves as one of alternative rock's hottest new properties. Firstly, check them out at www.myspace.com/divasuicide and then read this interview with their lovely singer -XS- (pictured)

Can you tell us how the band was conceived?
Can't say much as I was not in the band at the time it was formed. After few changes we came together with this line-up at the end of last year and things started to roll since then...

And the name Diva Suicide, can you tell us more and who came up with the name?
Dj Grudge saw a photo session of me covered in blood and came out with the name. One of the pictures was also used as the cover of the first demo - Quite funny as I was not even in the band and the last thing I could think of is becoming their singer!

And I love the band member's names. As for you -XS-. How did you come about that name? Living life to the excess springs to mind :) Of course, rock musicians do not do things like that :)?
Haha. Aren't you right? Well, there are two reasons for the name ? And the other one is that I'm quite 'petite', so I decided to play around with the name.

Anyway, for those who haven't heard your band, can you describe your music?
We have all lots of influences so I think it really reflects on our music.
Raunchy guitars mixed up with pink stars and submerged in a gloomy and electric night.

Cool! I find the music on your cd highly addictive and very catchy. What has the media reaction been like to the album?
The media has reacted very well and we have received a lot of good reviews which is pretty cool.

Including a good review from me :) And what are your musical influences?
Several and varied, but to name a few, Buckcherry, The Birthday Massacre, 30 Seconds to Mars, Backyard Babies...

Where did you record the album and how was your experience in the studio?
We recorded it at Dj Grudge's home studio. Always a good experience and has to be like that as we spend most of our time there!

My fave track is currently 'Crystals'. What are your fave tracks on the cd?
We have similar taste then! My favourite ones are 'Crystals' and 'She Cries to
Lullabies'. Specially, when we play them live they make me feel so excited, even if we have played them hundreds of times! 'Crystals' will also be part of the next Femme Metal Compilation CD in the Summer.

I understand that you are now working on new material for a forthcoming album. Can you give us more info?
We are and I'm really excited about it. The new material is raunchier, more hard rock and more edgy. I think it's sounding really well and you'll hear it in the next few months.

Who or what are your musical inspirations at the moment, and what/who do you listen to when you are chilling out or relaxing?
At the moment I'm listening a lot to 'Generation Wild', CrashDiets new album, can't stop playing it! I want to relax I play 30 Seconds to Mars - 'A Beautiful Lie' or Deaftone's 'White Pony' for example...

And do any of you have any hobbies when not making music?
Listening music and buying lots of CD's! And personally I also love reading and writing and am into animal rights so I try to put my free time into it too.

What top band/artist would you just love to tour with and hang out with?
Steel Panther! They are sooo bloody funny!

Thanks ever so for the chat. I am myself very much in love with 'SCARS'. Great little album. Finally, is there anything you would like to say to visitors to this site?
Thanks a lot for your nice words and for the interview! ? We are playing at The Scala next 26th June so it would be great seeing you all there!

-XS- Love xx
